Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (June 30, 2020) – Roger Crockett has climbed to second in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings after a strong return to series competition last weekend.

Crockett posted a pair of top-five runs, giving him a series-leading five top 10s in six races this season.

The action began last Thursday at Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., where Crockett hustled from eighth to third in a heat race.

“We got a decent start and had our car free enough,” he said. “We got up to fourth and then had a little luck with someone missing the scales, which gave us third in the heat. That put us in the first four feature redraw rather than being eighth or ninth or wherever it’d put us in points.”

Crockett redrew the No. 4 to line up on the outside of the second row for the A Main.

“We got up to second and ran the top,” he said. “A couple laps later it got marbly up there. I lost three spots in one lap. I worked past a couple of guys to get to third and rode it out.

“I wasn’t that happy with finishing third because I was disappointed with how I had the car. We went to the shop on Friday and I measured everything, dynoed my shocks, checked my weight and ride heights. I was dumbfounded why the car wasn’t better. We decided to go with a little different game plan on Saturday and we were really happy how it worked.”

Crockett ventured to I-30 Speedway on Saturday. He advanced from sixth to fourth place in a heat race before winning a qualifier. That ranked him sixth in overall points to garner the sixth starting position for the A Main.

“I went to some things we did last year that worked for us,” he said. “I could run through the middle in the slick and the car would do exactly what we needed it to do. I felt like our car could have competed for a win. It was extremely hard to get by a guy while competing for second. I finally got the position, but pushed up the track and lost two spots. When we took the white flag I was side by side for third on the top, but going into turn three a lapped car didn’t give me any room so we finished fourth.

“They had the race track really, really good. It was nice and wide and racy.”

Crockett was credited with a fourth-place finish, which was his third top five of the season.

He plans on racing at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday.
